Ines Papert’s journey from music-loving physiotherapist to Alpine pioneer exemplifies courage, versatility, and balance. She’s continually breaking barriers and redefining what’s possible—for herself, her son, and climbers everywhere.

 

Ines Papert, a legendary climber known for her dominance in ice, mixed, rock, and alpine climbing.

 

Born in Germany. After training as a physiotherapist, she relocated to Berchtesgaden in the Alps in 1993, discovering her passion for mountains and ice climbing .

Competition Achievements
  • Four‑time UIAA Ice Climbing World Champion (women’s lead category: 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006) . She also captured numerous World Cup event wins—21 in her career.

  • In 2005, she won the overall title at Ouray Ice Festival, outperforming many male competitors.

  • 1996: First major alpine climb—Germany’s Watzmann peak (2,713 m).

  • 2003: First single‑push redpoint of “Symphonie de Liberté” (M11) on Eiger North Face.

  • 2006: Redpointed “Pellisier” (8b/5.13d) on Cima Grande’s north face.

  • 2007: Repeated “Law and Order” (M13), once considered the hardest mixed route .
  • 2008: Opened “Into the Wild” (WI5, M12) in Canada.

  • 2013: Solo first ascent of Likhu Chuli I (6,719 m) in Nepal.

  • 2015: Second ascent of “Ritter der Kokosnuss” (M12) and first female ascent of Scotland’s “The Hurting” (XI/11).

  • 2016: First ascent of “Lost in China” (WI5+ M6, 1,200 m) on Kyzyl Asker (5,842 m) in Kyrgyzstan.

  • 2016: Repeated Germany’s Scaramouche (5.13b/c, 8-pitch), one of her toughest rock climbs .

Personal Life

Mother to her son Emanuel and balanced motherhood with elite climbing by traveling together on competition circuits.

She married fellow climber Luka Lindič and resides with her family near Berchtesgaden (Bayerisch Gmain).

Alongside climbing, she loves paragliding, meteorology, photography, and home renovation projects .
